Group THERAPY

In a fully confidential setting, group therapy provides an opportunity to:

  • Connect with others who can relate

  • Reduce feelings of isolation

  • Talk honestly and directly about feelings + express those feelings freely

  • Receive and offer support and feedback about coping with crisis

  • Gain insight and understanding in to one’s own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors by exploring patterns both inside and outside the group

  • Gain understanding of the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of others

  • Increase feelings of hope and confidence

  • Improve communication

During group sessions, group members are encouraged to talk about any personal issues relevant to the problems and goals that led them to therapy. Participants are encouraged to offer support, ask questions, wonder about things said or not said, and share associations and thoughts.

The group leader will facilitate the group therapy sessions. The role of the group leader is to use their training to facilitate therapeutic experiences in the group setting. This may include sharing observations, providing feedback and support, creating a safe atmosphere, discussing group dynamics, and finding a balance so all members have the time to participate.
